So, I am following up on the post I wrote earlier about Dean Wesley Smith and writing prolifically. (Can you tell that I am inspired?!) I would love to be able to post in a year and say, "See, I followed this advice and look where I am!" That sort of success would be mind-blowing. And honestly, I think it's do-able.
So, Dean wrote a post about writing in 2013 that I am going to take advantage of, "The New World of Publishing: How to Keep Production Going all Year".
In it, he outlines some goals for 2013, and different "routes" to take, such as:
Option 1: Set your plan to strictly follow Heinlein’s Rules.
Option 2: Set a "new word" count you would like to hit for the year.
Option 3: Set up a production goal.
Option 4: Get one new book up indie published every two weeks. (~25/year)
You can go to his post (see link above) to read his descriptions and suggestions for each.
My 2013 Challenge
1) Start a publishing company to publish books (for myself to start, at least)- Domain name is already purchased (1/25/13)
- Next step: create LLC
- Get business bank account
- Download extra software if necessary
2) Follow Heinlein's rules, that is:
- Write daily - see production goal
- Finish everything I write
- Do not rewrite unless to fix small errors (i.e., write quality the first time around!)
- Publish it
- Keep it on the market
3) Set a production goal:
1) Either one novel every month, or two short stories a month produced by me
2) The month goal will be met by one or the other of the above
3) No non-fiction books until the first year is up
I am going to make this a page on the blog for handy reference. I plan to update it frequently.
